Kalimpong
Kalimpong is one of the oldest towns in the hills and one can easily understand that if they visit the place which is filled by markets selling various kind of goods. It has also got a stadium right at the middle of the city. Among the places to visit are the orange gardens and flower valleys. Those who love the peace and quiteness of the mountains will find kalimpong a little congested. However there is a better option of spending the night in Dehlo or Delo which is about 20 km up from main town of kalimpong. It has got a resort and is absolutely a lovely place to visit. I would suggest everyone atleast visit the place once if not stay. The entire kalimpong city can be seen from the hill top of Delo. One can also go for Rangpo taking this route.
Lava and Lolegaon
Lava has a monestary and a museum besides wonderful scenic beauty. It snows in winter. It is an awesome site to see the snow lying on both the sides of the road and on the leaves hunging from the trees. One can shop for various artefacts at cheap rates here. There are numerous hotels and lodging options but it is better to book the rooms if one is visiting in peek season.Lolegaon is 3 to 3 and half hours journey from Lava. The roads are so beautiful with thick forest on both the sides that one easily fall in love with the nature around. These forests are homes of various wild animals.

Darjeeling and Mirik
Mirik
A beautiful place whose attraction is a huge lake around which the entire city is settled. The lake is surrounded by mountains from all sides, a spectacular view which one should not miss. You can sit beside the lake, take a stole, or travel up the mountains to enjoy the scenery. You can do horse riding or feed the fishes or can just spend hours looking the beauty around. If you are a shopping freak then mirik is the place. There are innumerous stalls situated near the lake and on the roads outside. Mirik has pleasant weather during summers (April May June) but temperatures go down upto 5 to 6 degrees per centegrade during winters (November December january and early February) and if you are lucky enough then you can also witness snowfall in the area.
Darjeeling
Darjeeling is situated in the hills, near Ghoom which is the highest hill station in India and the second highest in the world situated at an altitude of 7,407 feet. Among the various places for sight seeing in Darjeeling, is the Tiger Hill from where one can get the closest view of the Kanchenjunga and the Mount Everest with a clear sky. There is the Rock garden and Ganga Maya Park which have lovely water falls. One can ride on the Toy train from Ghoom and take a turn in the batasia loop. Darjeeling has innumerable cheap hotels and guest houses as well as five star luxury hotels. During the winters it snows and the whole ambience changes.
There is a place called Jhorpokri which is few kilometers away from darjeeling. It has a resort where one can stay and spend some lovely time among the mountain ranges. The entire place changes when it rains and seems a little heaven in itself. One thing which attracted my attention were the swans which I found near a lake which is just in front of the main resort building. It is a very beautiful place which one should not miss.

Travel tips
Travel tips which will help you enjoy your holidays. Travel to India and explore the natural beauty.
One has to take a train from Kolkata and reach New Jalpaiguri station in Siliguri from where car hiring facility is available. The other option to reach Siliguri is by flight to Bagdogra.
Besides hire cars, bus facility is also available. The hotels can also arrange for cars. The roads have sharp bends and are through the hills escalating from one to another hill. Thus it is always better to travel in hardy cars like jeeps and the like. One should also carry medicines for road sickness. Have light meals while you are travelling and carry minimum luggage with enough warm clothes as you never know when the climate changes.

The first destination which I am going to talk about in North East region of India is the trip to Darjeeling, Gantok and other parts of Sikkim including Pelling, Lava, Rabangla, Kerseong, Kalinmpong and many other favorite and popular tourist destinations in the North Eastern part of India.
Trains are available from Kolkata (Sealdah station and Howrah station) to Siliguri (New Jalpaiguri). One has to avail of the jeeps or buses there to reach to Darjeeling which is around 3 to 3 and a half hours journey. On the way falls mirik which has a beautiful lake. Cottages and hotels are also available at mirik.
From Mirik our next stop is Darjeeling. Its a beautiful place with equally beautiful people.
